❓ FAQ

Which iPhones support focalScan?

LiDAR scanning works on iPhone 12 Pro through iPhone 17 Pro (and Pro Max models), and iPad Pro with LiDAR. Manual entry works on all devices. Requires iOS 18 or later.

How much does Pro cost?

$12.99/year (best value — less than $1.10/month) or $2.99/week for short projects. Both include unlimited scans, all calculators, AI Pro Assistant, saves, exports, and PDF reports.

What materials does it calculate?

Paint quantities (1-3 coats), flooring area with waste, tile counts with layout patterns and grout estimates, trim and baseboard lengths, crown molding, chair rail, shoe molding, and wall covering roll counts with pattern repeat support.

How accurate are the scans?

LiDAR scans are typically within 1-2%. For critical measurements, verify a known dimension (like a door width) to confirm. Always verify before purchasing materials.

Where is the 3D view? I created a project but don't see it.

The 3D view requires a LiDAR scan. From the Home screen, tap the focalScan button to scan your room first — once the scan is complete, you'll create your project from it, and the 3D model will be available. If you created your project using "Manual Entry" from the Projects tab (tap the + button), you'll get accurate calculations but no 3D view since there's no scan data. LiDAR is available on iPhone 12 Pro through iPhone 17 Pro (and Pro Max models).

Does it work offline?

Scanning, calculations, and saved projects all work offline. The AI Pro Assistant requires internet.

Can I share measurements?

Yes — export PDF reports, share projects with other focalScan users, and use AirDrop. A designer in one city can receive a scan from a contractor in another.

What about billing, refunds, or subscription issues?

All billing is handled by Apple through your App Store account. focalScan does not process payments or issue refunds. For any billing or subscription questions, please contact Apple Support or manage your subscriptions in your iPhone Settings.

Can I open focalWall project files in focalScan?

Yes! focalScan and focalWall are fully compatible. You can open focalWall .zip project files in focalScan, and vice versa. Both apps share the same project format, so your work transfers seamlessly between them.

Is there an app that scans a room and tells you how much paint, tile, flooring, and wallpaper you need?

Yes — focalScan does exactly this. Use your iPhone's LiDAR to scan a room, and the app calculates paint gallons, tile counts with grout, flooring area with waste, wallpaper roll counts with pattern repeat, and trim lengths — all from a single scan. No tape measure, no manual math.

What is the best room scanning app for contractors?

focalScan is built for contractors, installers, and tradespeople who need accurate material quantities on site. Scan a client's room with iPhone LiDAR, get purchase-ready totals for paint, tile, flooring, wallpaper, and trim, then share a PDF report or the project file directly with your client or supplier.

Is there a tile calculator app that works with LiDAR?

Yes. focalScan scans the room with LiDAR, then its tile calculator lets you set tile size, choose a layout pattern — straight grid, brick offset, herringbone, or diagonal — and get exact tile counts, box quantities, and grout estimates with a built-in waste factor.

How do I calculate how much wallpaper I need for a room?

focalScan measures your walls automatically with LiDAR, deducts doors and windows, then calculates the number of rolls based on your wallpaper's width, length, and pattern repeat. It supports straight match, drop match, and random match so the roll count accounts for alignment waste.

Can I use my iPhone to measure a room for flooring?

Yes. focalScan uses iPhone LiDAR to capture floor area, then calculates material quantities with overage factors for hardwood, LVP, carpet, and tile. You get a purchase-ready total without pulling a tape measure.

Is there a paint calculator app that measures the room for you?

focalScan scans the room with iPhone LiDAR, measures every wall surface automatically, deducts doors and windows, and calculates how many gallons of paint you need based on spread rate and coat count. No manual measuring required.

Can I scan a room and share the measurements with my client?

Yes. After scanning with focalScan, you can export a PDF report with dimensions and material totals, or share the project file so your client can open the same room model in focalScan on their own device.

Does focalScan work for wallpaper installers?

Yes — it was designed with wall covering professionals in mind. Scan a client's room, get wall dimensions with door and window deductions, and calculate roll counts with full pattern repeat support. Save the project and share it as a PDF or project file for quoting and ordering.
